From the Editors

Greetings, UCI!

The staff of The Irvine Progressive would like to thank you for your interest in The Irvine Progressive, a liberal alternative publication for the University of California, Irvine. Today, when one talks about "liberals" or "left wingers," one is actually referring to a very broad, ideologically diverse group of people, ranging from moderate Democrats to the Greens and beyond. Although The Irvine Progressive is the brain child of the Young Democrats at UCI, the paper itself is not affiliated with any political party, and is committed to representing the views of the full spectrum of liberalism.

We believe that alternative student publications, such as The Irvine Progressive, are absolutely critical to maintaining a healthy diversity at UCI, and we therefore encourage you to support alternative student media. Please respect this and other publications on campus, whether or not you agree with the views expressed therein, because ultimately it is that diversity of opinion which leads to an open, democratic atmosphere on campus.

Sincerely,

The Editors
